Swap Google for Ecosia

How many times have you hit enter on Google today? I imagine if you paid a visit to your browsing history it’ll be a fair few times! I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure it’s something we all do almost subconsciously - but what if something as simple as Googling “why is the sky blue” (we’ve all done that, right?) could give back to Planet Earth. Sounds mad right - because how can the 2 be linked? Well, this is where Ecosia comes in.

I only discovered this great brand a couple of weeks ago but I knew I wanted to share it here with you, because I know this is something we can all get on board with. In a nutshell, Ecosia is the search engine that plants tree, crack open said nutshell and it is a little more sophisticated.

The idea? They use their ad revenue to plant trees where nature and people need them most - they’re not just funding their garden renovations! They even go so far as to publish their monthly financial reports, so you can see exactly where the income from our searches are going. The Ecosia servers run on 100% renewable energy and if you’re worried about privacy, well no need! In their words, they’re “interested in tress, not [our] data” so our searches aren’t saved, websites aren’t tracked, and data isn’t sold.

Since their launch in 2009 (how am I only just discovering them now!?) they’ve already planted millions of trees in Ethiopia, Brazil, Indonesia, and Spain - so think of how many more they could plant if we all got on board?

You can find out more about Ecosia and download the browser extension on their website: https://www.ecosia.org/

N.B this post isn’t sponsored - I just love the work that Ecosia are doing.
