Eating Out: Maple & Fitz
If you find yourself in Fitzrovia, London after a sweaty Psycle class or a marathon shopping trip, there is a great little spot to refuel on hearty salads and cold-pressed juice. Maple&FITZ was founded by Canadian born Adria who, after working and travelling around the world, found that her passion really lay with cooking. She left the corporate world in favour of a course at Le Cordon Bleu before setting up this lovely little eatery that centres around balance over perfection, a concept that really makes healthy food a lot less scary! Maple&FITZ uses wholesome and fresh ingredients to create a selection of nourishing and filling salads and guilt-free snacks such as granola bars and matcha energy balls.
Don't be put off by the salad based menu - there is absolutely nothing detox-y or minimal about these substantial salads with generous portions and rich and wonderful flavours. You really can taste the love and attention that has gone into creating each of the salads and when you combine them together they taste even better!
Both breakfast and lunch come with the option to add a selection of proteins too so you can get everything your body needs in one balanced meal. It is also perfectly located to offer a nutritious lunch to surrounding offices where you can get a comforting and tasty meal without suffering from an afternoon slump. Unlike many surrounding lunch options, you won't find any hidden refined sugar in any of the options here, helping you to sustain a great level of energy throughout the afternoon. What I was so surprised to hear was how reasonably priced a mountain of salad costs. For £6.95 (plus protein if you choose to add it) you get more salad than I could finish (and my appetite is definitely not small!).
Breakfast is also definitely worth a mention, although I haven't been lucky enough to give it a try yet. I'm particularly excited by the idea of miso porridge but if you're not ready to step away from a more conventional breakfast routine, there are plenty of other options too including avocado toast, regular porridge, or quinoa kick! I love that there are so many options for breakfast and if the salads are anything to go by then we're in for a real morning treat!
Although this eatery is small in size, there's plenty of space to sit. You can sit in the window and people watch or head downstairs with a friend where you'll find beautiful wooden tables and a clean and crisp feel. Adria also plans to have the courtyard finished in the next few weeks so you'll be able to grab a spot of summer sunshine over a green juice - a pretty heavenly combination.
So whether you're looking for breakfast, a hearty but healthy lunch or just a quick juice and snack break, pop in to maple&Fitz and as their sign says: Eat. Juice. Be Happy.
