My Summer Packing Essentials

IMG_3417 I've been getting pretty excited for summer holidays as I've come across loads of awesome summer products over the last few months that I have been waiting to wear/use/share with you all. I thought it might be fun to put them all together in one big post to show you what is coming with me in my bag (none of this is sponsored, just a few of my favourite things!). I got back from my yoga retreat which I hosted with Danny Osbourne for Helios Retreats and we had an awesome time. It meant that I got to test out lots of new summer things and I've put together a list of the ones that I love the most.

I am in love with a brand called Pampelone that I discovered a couple of months ago! They make the most gorgeous sundresses and playsuits and I loved wearing it as a beach cover up or for a stroll around the town in Mykonos. I teamed it up with my ASOS oversized sunhat for a little protection from the sun!

Pai make a perfect pack of travel essentials which means I have everything I need in one small packet to take with me on an overnight stay or to help pack light for a longer trip. There are a few different ones to choose from so you can have your favourites in hand-luggage friendly sizes. I then always pack coconut oil - you can get travel sized tubs from lots of different brands now, but if I'm going in the sun I make sure to take a bigger jar so that I can use it to remove make-up, moisturise, after sun or whatever else I may need it for! Coconut oil is also amazing for helping to look after your skin in the sun to rehydrate after a day on the beach. It also works as a hair mask too if it dries out from the sun or salt. Just remember never to put it on your hair or skin before sun exposure as it can make you burn!

Coffee scrub is also my absolute holiday staple. Especially if you like to spend time in the sun, it helps to keep exfoliating your skin to keep it smooth and avoid peeling! Which leads me to suncream... I cannot express enough how important it is to protect ourselves from the sun with SPF and a good pair of sunglasses. I love this suncream which is made from hemp - it seems to suit my sensitive skin well and has kept me well protected in the sun. I buy it on Amazon - I've not actually seen it for sale anywhere else - and it lasts pretty well too!

Of course I couldn't go to teach a yoga retreat without packing my favourite summer yoga clothes! I love these Lululemon Free Spirit shorts - I often find that shorts with an inner liner can be quite uncomfortable but these ones are perfect! They keep you covered in your downward dog, without any of the awkward inner liner VPL or otherwise uncomfortable issues with others! Their Align leggings are awesome too and great for yoga or exercise in slightly warmer weather.

Hip + Healthy stock one of my other favourite brands, Alo Yoga and I just cant get enough of the colour combo on this two piece set! I wore it loads and the leggings double up for just regular day wear with a pair of trainers and a baggy tshirt!

I know workout clothes can be really pricey but there are now some great high street brands that make more affordable, fashionable and functional gym wear. The one thing I would say is that in my experience you do tend to get what you pay for. So I try to invest in a smaller number of better quality pieces that will wash and wear well over a long period of time as a more sustainable way of consuming!

And if your boyfriend/husband/brother or other male companion might want in on the yoga action, I came across an awesome brand for guys too called Ohmme (Can you see what they've done there?!). Will put some of their shorts to the test while we were away and they get ticks for style, comfort and coverage!

Round towels may seem like a bit of a fashion statement but actually they are so practical that they are definitely worth a spot in your suitcase. Not only do they look pretty but they are perfect for keeping your bits and bobs a little less sandy and there's even space to share with a friend. My favourite is this pink pineapple one from The Beach People.

When I am away, I always like to carry a water bottle to make sure I remember to stay hydrated. Swell are my favourite and I am starting quite a collection. They keep your drink chilled all day (or hot if that's what you want!).

I've also got into Banagrams recently - its a great word game for long journeys or long evenings. Between that and my current book 'How Yoga Works', I stayed well entertained at quieter moments on my trip.

I did the grown up thing and finally stopped borrowing suitcases from my parents in favour of choosing one myself! I did a lot of research for something strong, light and sturdy and opted for this one from Eastpak! It was perfect for carrying everything that I needed (and more)!

Finally, I also travel with Symprove, a probiotic which I will talk more about soon, a bottle of Rude Health almond milk and a packet of Biona brown rice and sunflower seed bread. It may sound a little silly but it really does allow me to enjoy meals with my friends without having to make too much of a fuss over dietary requirements!
